Donita Gwyn Newman
Donita Gwyn grew up on a small farm located in the tiny town of Hayden, Alabama where she milked the cow, fed the pigs, cows and chickens, gathered eggs, and worked in the gardens and fields. She’ll tell you that almost everything she and her family had to eat was raised right there on that farm. We were organic when organic wasn’t cool!
Her musical influences include so many of the classic artists like Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette, Dottie West and Patsy Cline. And, of course there was Southern Gospel music…LOTS of Southern Gospel music playing in her country home. She began playing the piano at the age of 9 and started singing in small country churches at the age of 12 with her brother and two friends from the same town. This led to being a member of the gospel quartet, ‘Words Of Life’ who sang in churches mostly in and around Alabama, and occasionally in neighboring states.
Finally, all those days of music led to writing…first gospel, then country and American. Ahhhh….writing and singing her tunes! Donita Gwyn’s songs will pull at your heartstrings and her voice will leave you wanting to hear more. Donita Gwyn loves living in Nashville and has been blown away by the kindness and support of the songwriting community there.
