Casey Kelly

Smoky Mountains Songwriters Festival, Casey Kelly, Songwriter, Gatlinburg, TNCasey grew up in Baton Rouge, LA. and was one of the founding members of the legendary local rock band, the “Greek Fountains”. After the “Fountains” split up, he moved to NYC where he worked as a session musician and singer, a songwriter, an arranger, a music publisher, a record producer and a record company executive.

From there he went on to tour with Tom Rush, playing guitar, harmonica, and piano and then went to L.A. where he signed a recording deals Warner Brothers Records and A&M Records.

His next label deal was at Elektra Records where he released two nationally acclaimed albums, “Casey Kelly” and “For Sale”. He toured extensively promoting those records, opening shows and performing with virtually every popular music act of the time from the mega-hit group America to Frank Zappa. In 1972 he had a radio hit called “Poor Boy”

Recruited by famous publisher/producer Bob Montgomery, Casey moved to Nashville in 1976, where he has lived ever since writing top-selling songs for many of the major publishers and artists.

His many hit songs include #1’s: “Anyone Who Isn’t Me Tonight” by Kenny Rogers and Dottie West (Grammy® Nominated) , “Soon” by Tanya Tucker (Grammy® Nominated), “Somewhere Down the Line” by T G Shepherd and country music standard, “The Cowboy Rides Away” by George Strait.

Some other big recordings include: “That Road Not Taken” by Joe Diffie, “Only Game in Town” by America and “Resign Yourself” by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

Casey was recently recruited by Alpha Publishing to write “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to the Art of Songwriting”, which is available at book stores, live shows and on Amazon.com.

These days he performs in the US and Europe with Grammy® Award Winning singer, Leslie Ellis.
