All Workshops are held at The Edgewater Hotel (402 River Road, Gatlinburg, TN).

Topics and Presenters for the 2015 SMSWF WORKSHOP SERIES

  1.  2 SEMINARS ROLLED INTO 1 presented by Hall of Fame Radio Broadcaster member Bill Whyte.  One hour is dedicated to Comedy Songwriting “How ‘Funny’ Opens Doors” and the other is devoted to “Radio and Songwriting”.   Kevin King will join Bill for the ‘Radio and Songwriting’ hour. (Sunday, Aug. 23rd 11 – 1 PM).
  2. WRITING GOSPEL SONGS AND THE IMPORTANCE OF THE HANG – presented by Benjy Gaitherowner of Live Bait Productions (son of Bill and Gloria Gaither), and Jeff Silvey, owner of SafeHaven Recording, HeartDreams Music and Silvey Publishing, all located in Nashville, TN.   Jeff wrote “Oh What A Perfect Day” for George Strait.  (Saturday, Aug. 22nd 3:00 – 5:00 pm).
  3. NAVIGATING NASHVILLE AS A SONGWRITER presented by Marc Alan Barnette Customized Songwriting Tours.  (Friday, Aug. 21st 3:30-5:30 pm).
  4. Hits In The Air:  A Modern Look at the Role of Radio in Your Career presented by John Butler, Vice President Promotion Curb Records (Friday Aug. 21st 1 – 3 PM).
  5. HOW TO WRITE BETTER SONGS AND GET THEM CUT presented by Max T. Barnes Hit Songwriter and son of Max D. Barnes.  (Sunday, Aug. 23rd 8:30-10:30 AM).
  6. “BLUEGRASS SONGWRITING 101” Nashville Hall of Fame Songwriter member Kim Williams with Hit Writers Larry Cordle, Tim Stafford, and Larry Shell. (Thursday, Aug. 20th 2-4 PM).
  7. ARRANGING THE HIT 2015 – “Surveying the #1 Songs” presented by Larry Beaird of Beaird Music Group. “Attendees of this workshop can register for a chance to win a $625 demo from Beaird Music Group!” (Saturday, Aug. 22nd 8:30-10:30 AM).

To Register for the Aug. 19-23, 2015 SMSWF Workshop Series complete the information below.  In the message box:  type the name of the workshop, the workshop # or the presenter’s name of each workshop you are registering for.  Once you have submitted this information you will need pay the workshop registration fees.

(Note:  Fees vary depending on how many workshops you are taking. The more workshops you take the cheaper it is per workshop.  SMSWF believes in honing the craft of songwriting).

You can also enter by mailing us a check or MO payable to SMSWF for the cost of the workshops you want.  Please include contact information and what workshops you want to attend. Mail to SMSWF Workshop Series, PO Box 753, Gatlinburg, TN 37738.  All mailed registrations must be in hand no later than midnight, Aug. 15th.

On-line registration will end at 8 AM Aug. 17, 2015.   Workshops will cost $75 each at the door during the festival, if there are seats still available.

Workshop Place and Times will be announced once the 2015 Song Competition April 30th Entry Deadline and the 2015 Stage Spot Auditions May 15th Deadline pass.  The SMSWF wants to be sure if you have entered the song competition, registered for a workshop or have requested a stage spot there will be no conflict in you attending the Competition Finale & Awards Show, your workshop or your performance time at the festival.  Once we have all the registration information in we will be able to set the festival schedule.  The SMSWF hopes to have everything in place on the schedule no later than June 1st if not before.

A parent or legal guardian of minors registering for the SMSWF Workshops can attend with their child at 50% off the registration cost of the workshop(s) the minor is registered for.   In order to receive the parental or legal guardian discount email us at [email protected] the name of the minor that is registered and the name of the parent or legal guardian.   SMSWF will email you an invoice for the parental registration fee.  Parents or legal guardians cannot pick and choose separate workshops.  Parent or legal guardian go to all workshops the minor goes to.    Minors are welcome to attend without their parent or legal guardian provided said parent or legal guardian has purchased the registration for said minor thus giving their consent for said minor to attend the SMSWF Workshop Series.

Note:  Songwriter Workshop fees are non-refundable.  You can swap a workshop or get credit for it which can be applied toward any other SMSWF songwriter opportunity you wish to partake in now or in future festivals.
